February 9 -10, 2014: "Dorian Orchestra Festival"
From left to right: Dicey Spring, Shae Alcamo, and Dylan Niemeyer

Luther College Director of Orchestras Dan Baldwin called it "the coldest Dorian Festival ever" but five students from the Winona Senior High School Orchestra braved the weather to participate in the 43rd Annual Dorian Orchestra Festival, held at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

Students rehearsed intensely for a day and a half, attended master classes and a fine concert by the Luther College Orchestra, and enjoyed the traditional pizza supper at Mabe's, as well as performing in the closing "Grand Concert."  Hannah Nagel, violin, and Walker Brault, viola, played with the Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Baldwin. Dicey Spring, violin, Shae Alcamo, cello, and Dylan Niemeyer, violin, played with the Festival String Orchestra, conducted by Spencer Martin, also of Luther College.

Funding for Winona Orchestra students to participate at Dorian was provided by Strings in Motion, Inc., which assists the Winona School Orchestras.
